Horikiri Shobuen is the kind of town you want to return to after a long day and have a drink before going home. There are lots of places to do so around Horikiri Shobuen. And there's plenty more, too, from an old long-standing bath house, a 24-hour Chinese restaurant, a counter-only curry shop, an the pleasant Arakawa riverside.
In this article, we will introduce Horikiri Retro House and the Horikiri area!

Horikiri Retro House is a 10-minute walk from the Keisei line Horikiri Shobuen station. The house stands out with its fantastically colored red roof.

Retro details everywhere
Let's head inside and see all the retro details. The house was renovated recently, but we tried to leave as many of the original owner's intentions as possible.

Shared space on 1st floor
Passing through the entrance to the 2nd floor with a high ceiling.

Compact and fully-outfitted waterworks
On the 1st floor is a toilet, bath, shower, washing machine, and kitchen. The 2nd and 3rd floors have 1 toilet each which is convenient.

Dining room in a relaxing color
Past the kitchen on the 1st floor is the dining room. Cook here, watch TV with your share mates, have parties...!

Different room sizes
The rooms are various sizes, from 8~16㎡, and each has their own different touch. This is good if you're concerned about budget.

Kotobuki yu

It's right behind the house! Just a minute walk away from the house is the public bath house sento Kotobuki yu. It was established in 1945, and has a big painting of Mt. Fuji on the wall. Unfortunately we couldn't work out a schedule to take pictures, but why not check it out for yourself?

Sosai Saito

Just 30 meters from Horikiri Shobuen station is this place, Saito, that sells pre-made dishes. They make a wide variety, perfect for when you live a lone or with a family. The bentos are just 300 yen! We saw people buying a lot at once. They are open from 9 AM to 7 PM, but the bentos start going out at 10. Why not pick up some bentos and croquettes and have a picnic in the park?

Curry shop Aloo

Lastly, we checked out Curry Shop Aloo, which has been in business in Horikiri Shobuen for 20 years!
There are just 8 counter seats, and the kind woman running the shop makes hearty home-style curry, and lots of it.
