The 2nd Oakhouse share house in Kyoto, the earth Kyoto Imadegawa, opens in Spring 2020!

Imadegawa in Kyoto usually reminds people of the Imperial Palace, Doshisha University, and Nishijin textiles. But what is it actually like? The Oak Explorers find out!

We found 6 great spots around nearby Imadegawa station that will surely be nice if you use the station to commute.

This is just a minute away from the house.

They sell French style pancakes and also have an eat-in space.

The interior is really nice, and it was packed for lunch, so unfortunately we couldn't get in.

But if you live nearby you'll surely be able to drop by!

Nishijin is an area that extends from Kamigyo ward to Kita ward and includes Imadegawa. It's famous for its high-quality silk textiles, and this museum has a free kimono show every day!

Sometimes you may not be able to get a seat, but you don't need to make a reservation and there are 6 shows per day.

You can see actual weavers working and talk with them, and also interact with the materials and tools used to make these textiles. There are also displays and many ways to learn.

They do take-out and have an eat-in space.

It's a great shop with good drinks, gyoza, karaage, and more. And of course Takoyaki!

They specialize in something called 'henkoyaki'. They don't use sauce, but instead use sesame oil, green onions, and rock salt for a great flavor.

They also have juicy hot gyoza and crunchy karaage. It's sooooo good!

Oak Explorers can't pass up a chance to enjoy a mid-day beer!

This is a cafe that specializes in cream puffs.

They also have apple pie and mon blanc cookie cream puffs! And more!

This is a nice cafe to come if you want to have a relaxing chat time with housemates. (The picture looks more 'wild' than 'relaxing'...sorry!)

This is a great museum with over 3000 anime, tokusatsu, and kaiju figures!

It's a place with an at-home feeling.

They have stuff from the good old days as well as modern IPs, so there's something for everyone to enjoy.

On the grounds of the Kyoto Imperial Garden, you can see the former Kyoto Imperial Palace for free and without reservations.

There's a tea shop by the entrance, and we recommend the matcha set!

The gardens have such a beautiful nature, and you'll be able to take lots of great pictures.

It's a pretty place to walk around.

It's especially lovely in the spring!

We hit more spots than the usual Oak Explorers excursion. It may seem like we've walked a long way, but the house is just a 12-minute walk from the station!

Plus there is a bus stop just a minute away from the house. You can get to Kyoto station from Imadegawa by train in 15 minutes!

Plus, there's a supermarket, gym, and lots of great restaurants near the house. There's so much more to find than we showed!

This is a good house to live in if you'll be studying at Doshisha University.
